Szőke Mátyás & Zoltán Winery

Mátyás Szőke Sr. was among the first to produce quality wines in the region. He worked tirelessly to strengthen the family business with heart and soul. Behind the successes clearly stands a supportive wife and a stable family. Zoltán, his son who graduated in Budafok and became the winemaker of the winery has been a great help in the cellar operations. Today, the third generation, young Mátyás Szőke, has taken over ‘Uncle Matyi’s place. In 2010 the family business began expanding its facilities in two phases: the first phase saw the completion of the new bottling building and the bottled aging room. In 2011, the Vinotéka was built. Reflecting on the generational change in HWG Mátyás Szőke Sr. said in 2021: “Everyone is a good friend of mine; Ede Tiffán and I are the oldest, and we receive respect due to our age, but the future lies with the young. In our family, my son Zoltán and my grandson Matyi are the young generation. They are next in line, and I am increasingly passing the responsibilities to them. Zoltán feels at home in the vineyard, and my grandson Matyi in the cellar; they have a knack for it. We work a lot, outlining numerous directions and goals at member meetings, but there is no doubt that the future’s success lies in unity and the strength and perseverance of the next generation.
